Wi-Fi & Internet Access:
The Compass Point Wi-Fi Network has 29 access points located throughout the property giving 100% coverage to our guests.
We have 5 ADSL modems in service for the Compass Point Wi-Fi Network, with a download speed of between 4-8 MB each (total 20-25MB) and this is shared between all 28 condo units. Individual speeds can be expected between 1.5MB to 4.5MB download speeds depending on occupancy. Upload speeds are more restricted by our ISP to between 512k-1MB per modem.
Our network supports regular laptops, iPads/Tablets and Smartphones. Our Wi-Fi network can work with devices such as Apple TV and other media players.
Our Wi-Fi is a public open network and it is recommended that your firewall is activated. Our network is compatible with most VPN configurations, but no technical support on site is available for such settings.
Some media content sites based in the USA, Canada or UK, such as Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Instant Streaming do not work outside of their territory at this time. However, iTunes and a restricted Netflix selection works internationally and in the Cayman Islands.
Mobile Phones:
If your mobile phone is a GSM type phone and runs on a GSM network at home, such as T-Mobile and AT&T - then it WILL work.
If your phone is a CDMA type phone and runs on a CDMA network, such as Sprint and Verizon - then it may NOT work unless your device is a 'World Phone' type.
Every guest room at Compass Point is provided with a local Mobile / Cell Phone instead of a fixed line room phone. You may use this phone during your entire stay and carry it with you where ever you go on island. All inbound calls and calls to other guests and resort phones are free of charge. You may top up the phone with credit to make local and international calls at standard rates. No resort surcharges are added to our mobile guest phone service. No other resort offers this level of freedom and price in the Cayman Islands.
TV Service:
Compass Point's TV service is provided by West Star TV and includes approximately 30 standard definition channels and 18 high definition channels. To view WestStar's Channel Line-Up, Click Here.
Electrical Power Supply Specs:
Grand Cayman uses the 240/120Volt, 60Hz standard common in North America. Plug-ins / Electrical sockets are the same as Canada, the United States, and Mexico. It is also the same as used in Central America, the rest of the Caribbean, northern South America (Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela and part of Brazil), Japan, Taiwan and Saudi Arabia.
Travelers from Europe or other countries will need to bring their own power adapters adapters.
